I am not feeling great today, but I can’t tell if I am actually sick.

I took care of a few essential items, and I decided to go home. My poor new assistant kept trying to engage me to get a list of to dos , but I was not cooperating. She wants to be productive and helpful. I am cranky and not receptive.

I have a problem employee. She got a b ad review at the end of the year. Time is running out. She really irritated me today. My legal assistant, who knows me best, texted me not to respond to a certain email until she tells me her ideas to fix it. She is trying to keep stormy waters smooth. She is a smart lady. I’m staying home with Toby.

I don’t envy your position. I think employees are the most difficult thing to get right in a business.

Today is day four out of seven working nights. Might be working Friday for some sweet sweet double time, too. Such is life.

I took care of a few essentials, updated a technical drawing, and wrote a justification for a spec alteration. I did some thinking about the thing I’ve been trying to draw up all day, but it just hasn’t happened. :/

I’m sympathetic on the employee front. I have a technician who seems to hate my graduate student especially. In fact, she seems to be really poor at team work in general. It’s been wearing on me to the point that I’m not enjoying my research. Bleh.

Just got in a heated technical discussion with a vendor I am convinced is feeding me a light amount bullshit. The BS’ing is whatever, I know what data to ask for to come to my own conclusions. The issue was, they kept insisting what they gave me is better, and then interrupting me while I was trying to explain what I wanted and why. That shit does not fly. Especially if I’m YOUR customer. They were quiet for the remainder of the phone call and the data will be in my inbox when I arrive tomorrow morning. I wear many hats and I do most of them well. Most people forget that I’m not just a sales guy, or a purchaser. I’m a somewhat smart and experienced engineer that just happens to also have soft skills. Also, I’m incredibly amped up on cold brew today. DO NOT feed m e bulls**t and do not interrupt me when I’m talking. The guy I just hired and am training at least got a kick out of it.

4 days until Friday...

The thing I set out to accomplish today hasn’t even been started yet. I keep getting interrupted every time I start a task. So I feel you. Currently taking 5 on oppo to cool off before responding to a few emails.

Snow storm, yes again, closed roads, zero visibility, schools closed, still made it to work and back. My deep well pump died Saturday morning, made a few calls to find a new pump, . My pump is about 150 to 200 feet down the casing, fo we are planning on pulling it out Thursday when it will be warmer(still under freezing)

Now I have to go plow my yard again, while the wife cleans the kids at her parents. Then I can go over and wash my self too. Then bed....

Slept in.

Responded to my landlord who says he hasn’t received the rent check; I mailed it from somewhere different and can’t for t he life of me remember where that was; the mailbox felt like a box was jammed in it, and I hope my envelope didn’t get picked up by someone other than a postal employee.

Grabbed a burger for the first time in a month (even though I know I shouldn’t).

Installed a s oundbar on my $20 42" TV.

Stopped by a gourmet grocery store for salame and cheese (right next to my doctor’s office - let’s hope they didn’t see me)

Met with an oncologist to set up chemo. My 5-year survival odds are pretty good without it (as long as I stay away from the cheeseburgers and salame) but it sounds like cheap insurance to increase my odds.

My boss was out sick, so I covered some stuff for him including our morning airline start up meeting with the big wigs. I had an employee from another group come by and ask for help dealing with a people issue in their team. I told them what I thought. They always seem to come to me. Even our HR guy commented on it.

Helped someone with two interviews in the middle of the day and then had an hour long metrics meeting. Yay. Did some stuff, came home, had dinner and went to my son’s scout meeting.

I did take a few minutes in there to look at the dates for the Hot Rod Power Tour. May try and do the entire thing this year. I’m going to take the Mini just to be that guy.

My wife paid for our safai in South Africa for spring break today. Looking forward to that.

clients lawyer kicked the can down the road again, “we’ll get you an answer by friday” you said that almost 4 weeks ago. The list of shit to do is growing, and clock is running out.
